Fashion Trends for Spring and Summer 2008

Women’s Fashion Trends for Spring & Summer 2008

An array of feminine styles will bring us into the new spring and summer season for 2008. In addition to last year’s oh-so-hot colors, everything’s just a little brighter and bold. With polished styles and retro designs, this summer’s latest fashion trends for women are truly inspiring and a whole lotta fun.

Everything that’s old is new again. Reminiscent of yesteryear, we’ll be seeing much more clothing that makes women feel flirty and sexy. Girly lace in just the right place will accent a fine blouse while romantic ruffles add just what it takes to make a dress ready for work or play.

Seasonal Colors

  • Splashy, fruity colors such as mango, watermelon, lemon, tangerine, and lime green give a large variety of choices and will surely get you noticed.
  • The fashion industry and popular designers are favoring classic red in gowns as well as handbags. Too bold for you? Add the color in accessories such as belts and jewelry.
  • The palette for formalwear offers up powdery pastels and classy, ever-so-trendy silver, gold, and white so you can dress up in style.
  • Silver and gray replace black for warm weather neutrals. Whether matte or metallic, these two colors add dimension to otherwise solid styles.
  • Classic tan and military green are a great combo, not only for solid pieces but for the very trendy camouflage styles as well. Whatever your choice, these colors need simple accessories such as a belt and gold chain.

Styles and Patterns

  • Fashion trends for woman this summer will showcase ultra-feminine styles with lots of movement. Flowing skirts and chiffon blouses are dressy, yet casual enough for a party.
  • Hemlines are higher but not too high. Only a few inches above the knee leave just enough to the imagination. On the contrary, shirt lengths are getting longer, allowing space for a strategically-placed belt or sash.
  • Sleeves take a backseat to this year’s sleeveless, off-the-shoulder, and cutout designs — making shoulders a perfect place for a light dusting of bronzing powder.
  • Retro styles are all the rage with patterns reminiscent of the 1960’s, 1970’s, and even the 1980’s. What’s exciting is the use of contrasting colors in the patterns, some quite wild in geometrical shapes.
  • Playful prints include tiny clusters, paisley, and floral patterns, all in a barrage of color. Perfect for a spring day or hot summer night.
  • Fashionable, military inspired clothing shows your support and is an instant hit for casual wear. Take your pick from light, cotton cargos, camouflage, walking shorts, and belted jackets.
  • All-in-one outfits take the guesswork out of matching separates. Look for one-piece styles in suits and shorts. Most come with a belt or sash to define the waist.
  • There’s a lot of appreciation for vintage clothing, with good reason. There’s some real treats to be found in second-hand shops that still look very stylish in today’s world.
  • An interesting pattern emerging is typography. From clothing, to jewelry (and even home decor!) However, it’s not always obvious. Sometimes you may not notice the letters unless you look closely.

Fashion Accessories, Jewelry, and Shoes

  • Just a few valuable accessories are all you need. Belts, sashes, and head scarves are abundant this spring and work well in moderation.
  • Summer’s hottest trends are glitzy metallics that adorn a wide range of accessories, including belts, purses, and shoes.
  • Patent leather is not just for winter. A fine handbag or pair of shoes will add a nice finishing touch to your wardrobe.
  • Gold is making a comeback, revealing itself in gold/silver combos in jewelry. Perfect for the girl who can’t decide, she can have both at once!
  • Size counts when it comes to handbags. Many celebrities prefer leather carryalls and designer tote bags to lug around their worldly possessions. The extra space is handy for new celebrity moms who refuse to forgo fashion to practicality.
  • The runway is showing shoes that have substance with more sole and heel, which elongulates legs and adds height. High heels and weaved wedges are a just the thing for summer, casual and dressy all at once.
  • For those who prefer flats and a very trendy style, opt for those with pointy toes. Want to be a tad more conservative? Choose flat sandals in neutral colors that will go with just about anything. Strappy sandals are always fun for long weekend getaways.

 Hot Makeup Trends for 2008

  • Many cosmetics companies are offering sheer, mineral makeup that looks very natural outdoors. Not only foundation, but blush and eye shadow that add just a hint of color.
  • You don’t have to be a teen to enjoy lip gloss. By itself or over lipstick, it looks luscious and makes your lips appear plumper.
  • Mascara does double-duty by adding length plus volume. Many come in all-in-one packages, two wands and two small tubes, one with basecoat and one with a topcoat in the color of your choice.
  • Pigment, and lots of it! New compacts are crammed with complimenting colors marbled within one compartment. The current trend is to apply natural-looking makeup and turn up the color on the eyes.

What’s happening this September? Superstar Gwen Stefani is taking the fragrance world by storm with her Harajuku Lovers collection. Inspired by her and her four real-life backup singers (Love, Angel, Music and Baby), Gwen is making five different fragrances based on their diverse personalities and style. The bottle, according to WWD.com, will have the glass base holding the scent, and a doll crafted in the image of one of the five women. They’ll be reasonably priced (small bottles will retail for $25, the larger size on $45) so that fans can pick up more than one. Gwen’s also working on a new No Doubt album, a spring 2009 line for L.A.M.B., and oh, yeah, her second baby, due later this year. Whew!

How To Apply Foundation

How to Apply Foundation  With a clean face, cleanse, tone and moisturize.Apply primer. Apply foundation to freshly moisturized skin to ensure you have a perfect base on which to work. Then, I use a cosmetic sponge to apply most types of foundation –Try not using your fingertips which results in an uneven, greasy finish.Apply foundation in dots, then blend each one with your sponge.Dampen the sponge first of all, then squeeze out the excess moisture – this will prevent the sponge from soaking up too much costly foundation.Check for tidemarks on your jawline, nose, forehead and chin.Choose a color only one shade lighter than your skin tone for the most natural look. You will get best results if you use a flat brush to apply the cream into the hollows of the shadow and then gradually blend it into the rest of your makeup. Then apply some powder to finish it off. Loose powder is great!

Get Gwen Stefani’s Look

gwen1.jpg

Gwen Stefani is my idol, and I’ve loved her since the beginning, in 1992, before No Doubt hit the scenes. I saw her at Berkeley when No Doubt was a ska band. But anyway, people are emailing me“Joy, how do I do my makeup like Gwen Stefani???”So, I’ve put together some makeup steps. If you dare to look extreme and get Gwen’s sexy, retro style, follow these steps.

USING MOTIVES MAKEUP!!!

STEP 1 Always always always before applying makeup, use this rule: use a hydrating moisturizer and eye cream. I use Vitashield Intensive Eye Firming Treatment. With your fingertips, dot motives Foundation Stick (on your forehead, chin, the bridge of your nose and the apples of your cheeks. On the forehead and cheeks, blend in an outward motion; on the chin, blend in a downward stroke. Work with small amounts of foundation at a time (it’s better to start light and build slowly to get the desired finish).

STEP 2  Apply concealer to the eyelids and under the eyes using a concealer brush. The motto here is “less is more.” (Too much concealer can result in creasing.) The concealer should also be used to cover blemishes and as a base coat for the lips.

STEP 3 For a dramatic brow, use a brow brush to apply a rich brown shadow to the eyebrow in short strokes. Make sure the color is well blended to create a natural shadow effect. Use the Brown Eyed Girl Palette from Motives.

STEP 4 Working with an eye blender brush, apply sheer iridescent shadow to the brow bone only. Apply a light bone shadow to the rest of the lid. In the crease, apply a warm taupe and blend well with your brush. You want the crease color to be soft and natural.

STEP 5 To line the eyes, wet a pointed liner brush and dip it into black eyeshadow to create a modern version of liquid liner. Start a narrow line at the top inner corner of the eye and gradually thicken, tapering off at about 1/8 inch beyond the outer corner of the eye. Use a black eyeliner pencil to line the inside of the upper lash line and the very inner corner of the bottom. Finish by curling the lashes and applying two coats of black mascara to the top and bottom lashes.

STEP 6 Contour your cheekbones using Motives color swirl in raspberry. In circular motion, color onto the face, starting just below the cheekbones and working toward the hairline.

STEP 7 Outline the lips using a Motives lip liner. Make sure to seal in the outer corners of the mouth with the pencil. This gives the lips extra definition and depth. Use a lip brush to blend the liner up and into the lip to erase any signs of a definite line. Apply a rich red lipstick to the lips with the lip brush, starting from the corners and working toward the center. As a final touch, dab a small amount of lipgloss onto the back of your hand. Pick up a small amount with your lip brush and lightly dab it over the color. Be careful not to smudge or disturb the color you just applied.

STEP 8 For subtle, sexy shimmer, finish with a dusting of iridescent loose powder on your forehead, cheeks, shoulders and chest.

Slim Your Face W/ This Easy Ass Trick!

Do you have a wide face with cheeks that stand out and you look like a bloated fish? Im just kidding. Well, I have that problem. But hey, you know, we’re all still very cute.

If you have a chubby face, its all good. Don’t even worry about it.
Just make sure that you don’t cut your hair short, which makes your face appear wider than it is, and one simple technique to slimming your face is a 5 letter word:

BLUSH!!!

  1. Purchase two shades of blush, one of a deeper shade and one that’s lighter. To ensure the shades go together, purchase a compact with two coordinating shades.
  2. Apply your usual foundation make-up or powder to cover any imperfections and even out your skin tone.
  3. Apply the lighter shade of blush in circular motions onto the apples of your cheeks… how are you to find them apples? Just smile!
  4. Next, following the line of your cheekbones, apply a sheer sweep of the deeper shade of blush.
  5. Blend, blend and blend. The key with this trick is to create dimension, but you do not want a very obvious demarcation between your natural cheek color and the blush (i.e. think racer stripes!).
  6. Sweep a small amount of the lighter shade across your nose and/or forehead as desired to add an extra “glow” to your complexion.
  7. I use Motives makeup to make my face appear thinner than it really is.

bronzer.jpg
This is Motives Sunset Bronzer, and I use it in the Summer time .

blush.jpg

And here is Motives loose blush powder. I wear this usually for daily wear. It gives my cheeks a beautiful glow and I feel more confident and radiant that my face doesn’t look all chunky. I love wearing this because it’s for sensitive skin and also the color blends in naturally with my skin.

Why Guys Cheat…My take On It

Why Guys Cheat: Why Bad Guys Cheat and Good Guys Don’t

One of the most painful experiences one undergoes in life is discovering your boyfriend or husband is a cheating guy. It becomes even more painful if you strongly care about, or deeply love, him. Why guys cheat is a question that demands a deep and introspective research and before we start we have to clarify what we really mean by cheating. Cheating to some people may be simple glances at a good looking woman as she walks down the street or thinking about that sexy looking number that is displayed on the calendar or thinking ‘if only I am single’.

According to Womansavers.com, 22% of married men have strayed at least once during their married lives, 70% of married women did not know of their spouses’ extramarital activity, while another 3% of married women reported having sex with someone other than their spouse. In the year 1997, 22 percent of men admitted to having sexual relations outside their marriage sometime in their past and 17 percent of divorces in the United States are caused by infidelity.

At what point a woman believes her partner is cheating on her, is largely dependent on her level of insecurity. A woman who lacks confidence, who does not feel good about herself and is full of insecurities, might become paranoid at the mere mention of another woman, while another who is full of self-confidence and is comfortable with herself and with her relationship is far less likely to get concerned with straying eyes and a meaningless comment.

Before answering the question ‘why do guys cheat’ we need to understand as to what is normal behavior for a man. Can we get upset when a man enjoys a little flirtatious behavior or remarks on the good looks of super model if the act or comment hardly bears any substance? An innocent action that in no way impacts the way a man feels about his partner is harmless, it is how much he is and can be trusted to draw the line that matters.

Some guys are just born to cheat and it is in their very nature to sample what is on offer. Such men are hard pressed to form a lasting relationship but it is usually apparent from the onset as to what type of relationship a woman is letting herself in on. For some men cheating is a way to boost their ego with each additional invasion it keeps on enhancing their ego to go for more.

One of the most important factors that determines the difference between a good and bad man regarding fidelity is to take a look at his parents. Did he come from a loving family with monogamous parents as his example? It is a well-known fact that children learn by example, even if it is subconscious. Boys who are aware of their father’s infidelity, tend to eventually accept this behavior as normal, thus repeating the adulterous behavior as adults. The same goes for boys who witness their mother having affairs.

So why do women continue to be attracted to the “bad” guys who cheat? Perhaps it is because they secretly wish to tame or change them. It is so important for women to understand that if a guy cheats on a woman, there is a very good possibility he will cheat on you. However, women frequently think that they will be the exception or that the man cheated because he had good reasons. Men always have good reasons for cheating so ladies, do yourself a favor and pass up the bad cheating guys for the good faithful guys. He may not always be as exciting and dangerous, but love and trust always outweigh danger and excitement in the long run.

So ladies, have you ever been cheated on? And did you dump him right then and there? Lets take a poll….

Ladies: The Truth About Men and What They Really Want In A Women!!!

Women often tell me that men confuse them and that they are unsure what a man is really looking for. They have tried to please them in the past and it hasn’t worked so no, the man can concentrate on pleasing them or leave. If the media is to be believed, many women don’t care what a man is looking for anymore because they have been empowered by their own sexuality and are comfortable in their new role as sexually liberated career woman in charge of their own destiny. In which case, as long as the man wants them, that is fine.

It doesn’t matter whether that view is actually true or not. What is true is that the modern man is increasingly struggling to find his place in the world. The Armed Forces and Space programs quite rightly have very highly qualified career women working in their departments and in most aspects of industry, women are excelling. The old male bastions are crumbling and with them their innate self respect as well as their understanding of how they should act and what they desire.

Any woman reading this may say well it’s a problem for men and they should deal with it. Absolutely I can reply, but you cannot expect miracles instantly. Generations of history dictating a man’s role and function cannot be decided and altered in the space of 20 years without some fallout. Few can argue against the excitement felt by women as their empowerment continues but at the same time, one must expect issues to coincide with this. And one of those as I said is the question of understanding what the modern man is looking for.

Men have started to evolve and are starting to grasp the fact that their role may not be as it once was. ‘Starting’ is the operative word because this does not mean that there aren’t large swathes of the world where men insist on being the breadwinner and women should still remain at home rearing children. It is going to take a long time to change the world. However in our western cities a change is in full swing. Men know that to find a mate they are going to have to work harder than ever before and they are aware that women call the shots far more than ever before. But this doesn’t essentially change what a man is looking for.

Okay so what is a man seeking?

    • First of all a man is seeking a love-interest. This may surprise many women but men like to love and they like being loved in return. The problem is that many women come across as impassioned and cold. It is not easy to find a loving woman and it is very noticeable how many men try and hang on when they think they have found their Miss Right.

    • Men are seeking a woman who is attractive to them. Women may despair that men can be so shallow and that looks could matter so much but be careful. Men aren’t necessarily looking for a catwalk model and many men don’t like women who weigh 80lbs. But men do want a woman who takes pride in their appearance (though not excessively). Men are proud of having a girlfriend who looks good and I don’t believe any man who says otherwise.

    • Men are looking for a trustworthy girl, someone they can have faith in and someone who will be there for them. This may sound like an odd thing to say, but the fact is, some women are not trustworthy and many are not faithful either. So many in fact that men are increasingly wary. That kiss at a Christmas party may not count, or the flirtatious behavior with the gorgeous barman and in fact its all great fun and part of a woman’s character. But reverse the situation and as a woman, you hate him doing the same. A man can never forgive a woman being unfaithful and so he is looking for someone who he really does trust.

    • Men want to make a home eventually and are looking for a woman who will be a willing sharer in home life. Women with a sociable lifestyle are attractive because they can be relied upon to keep the social diary running in a long term relationship.

    • Men are seeking women who are feminine gentle and kind because deep down the qualities that make a woman a great mother are an attraction in themselves. I am not suggesting that the man himself needs mothering, though some do, it is more the point that men seek the attributes in women that point to someone who would make a great mother to future offspring.

    • Men want women with a great sense of humor. Women often come across as uptight or too bothered by too many small details. You will sometimes hear mention of a girl who is ‘one of the boys’. What this means is that she is able to fit in with their humor and is sociable and fun to be with. Such women are extremely attractive to many men. Men want to have a good time and relax when not working and so their ideal partners are women who are able to do the same.

    • Men are looking for women who retain their femininity and and are caring and kind. In recent years, aping men may be a female fashion statement, but it doesn’t make them attractive. Whilst every woman in the world burps and farts and has the right to drink pints of beer, it doesn’t necessarily attract them to the opposite sex. Women can get angry and say well men will just have to get used to it, but the issue is that they don’t. They can just choose not to go for women who act in the same way as their drinking buddies.

    • Men want someone who is supportive. Many women are quick to criticize men in their behavior, career and set about trying to alter them and mould them. This is a crucial mistake. Men can be manipulated yes, but they see their partnerships as support systems. The best relationships work both ways in terms of support. Where a woman is not able or willing to give that support and is too quick to criticize then she may lose her man.

    • Men don’t like angry women who shout. They want a woman who can debate and converse and is able to discuss. Communication is king. A fiery passionate temperament may have made you interesting and challenging on day one. But by day 500 it holds no glory whatsoever.

    • Men love a challenging woman, someone who keeps them on their toes. Men are generally lazy in relationships once they feel they’re in secure territory. When a man is challenged so he does something about it. If you want to keep your man interested, keep him challenged.

    • Men are generally more reserved about sex than women. This is my experience is a fact. Men know what they like in bed and tend to stick to it. The adventurous sexual appetite in most men isn’t there even if they are convinced it is. Men in reality are quite conservative. Sexually adventurous has nothing to do with having lots of partners and more to do with the things they will try with the same partner. In most test cases I have conducted, it is the man who looks for a quiet time in the bedroom and the woman who ultimately becomes bored.

    • Men want a woman who will commit to them. Though increasingly this is hard to find, it doesn’t take away the wish. Men want a girlfriend who they can share with and trust and be open with. Commitment is not a one way street and therefore men are struggling to find the levels of commitment they found previously. But the need is still there.

    • Men don’t want to be alone.

This column can easily fire a great debate and I may be accused of being completely wrong but that is the beauty of opinions. We all have them. The fact is, a modern man is seeking a reliable, sexy, single girl with whom he can have a long term relationship with. He wants to have fun, share his life and ultimately settle down. There are a few long term bachelors but not that many. The problem guys have is that the world has changed. They don’t necessarily want to have children and settle down straight away, but it will come. They do seek self-respect even if they are not the primary breadwinner and they seek respect from their partner.
As for me, I still haven’t found “Mr Right,” and I wish he would come around and sweep me in his arms, but till then, I will keep my head up and remember that the next guy that comes around that “tickles my fancy,” I will keep this in mind. :)
