2015 <3 <3 I Promise To Love Me For Me <3 <3

Uncategorized

Well, it’s been several years since I’ve had this site and A LOT has changed. I have a new bf of almost 4 years that I am still dating (amazing since I get tired of people easily) whom I’ve just moved in with, I am no longer at my Marketing job where I traveled often, I gained 40 pounds, I’ve done a handful of marathons, and I have a new cat. Now, on to the current stuff….

I am temporarily unemployed and I have time for myself to blog, workout, and think about me.

Every freakin New Years, I always say to myself “I will lose weight, I will become healthier, I will live a better lifestyle, I won’t be so judgemental, I’ll be more accepting,” blah blah blah…

This year, I’ve decided to STOP with the whole diet promise. I promise to love myself more, become my own best friend, and stop criticizing myself in the worst way possible. It takes a lot to accept yourself so for me, even acknowledging that I am pretty with or without makeup, or even that I am as intelligent as others, it is a big deal.

My total inspiration for loving me just the way I am is through Whitney Thore. She’s the over weight supersized chick that has her own series on TLC “My Big Fat Fabulous Life” and she records her life on losing weight derived from much determination and motivation. She definitely is ambitious, funny, and her charismatic approach to life is real.

So, thank you , Whitney, for bringing that positive energy to me and all the other millions of people out there that know the struggles of weight loss and insecurities.

New Years means new beginnings and this is when people start the whole “starting next year, I will…” blah blah and so on. Some times we stick to it (for a couple of months and then we stop) and other times, we just say “to hell with it, I’ll do it next year.” Yes, been there done that. The most popular New Year’s Resolution I hear from everyone is losing weight and being healthy. Losing weight has been my New Year’s Resolution for the past several years. I am older now, and yes, I am more than ever knowledgeable on all the different types of diets out there, including low fat,  no sugar, low carb, low calorie, liquid / shake / green tea / whatever the hell you call it diet.

Last year, my goal was to lose weight and to run a marathon. I succeeded in running 3 marathons and I am very proud of myself . Did I lose weight from running? HELL NO. In fact, I gained weight. Why? Let’s just say that my body craves more fuel when I am running and for some stupid reason, I kept thinking that I can cheat on my diet if I ran miles and miles. That is not the business. We all have different body types and our bodies react different when losing weight. Some people lose their belly first, and others lose weight in their arms or it shows in their face. When I lose weight, I start to lose my buttocks and my breasts. Talk about being lucky. LOL. Ugh, I just don’t get it. Well, starting today, I will do the following:

No Carbs

Image

I will not visit the cupcake bakery any more and I will not subject myself to eating my mommy’s mouthwatering goodies.

No More Fast Food

I will NOT be visiting KFC, Mcdonalds, L & L, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell just because I am hungry and I want something right away. This is going to be hard!

Image

No More Daily Weighing!

There is nothing worst than constantly weighing yourself every day and feeling like a failure when the numbers are not going down. Yes, your weight fluctuates but I have this whole mental thing in my head where if I don’t see the numbers drop fast enough, I get discouraged, so I will NOT use the scale.

Losing weight is important for your health but before you start a diet, please do as much research as you can, get advice/ consent from your doctor and do it in a healthy way.  I will be posting here daily with a progress report so if you’d like to follow me on my journey, check back . Happy New Year!!!!!

I’m sure some of you had one heck of a blast during New Year’s eve and you’re still trying to recuperate. If your face is screaming “I partied too much and it shows,”   try these 3 things to help you look like your spunky awesome usual self

1) Primp and Curl…Primp and Curl your eyelashes. Big curl eyelashes = Im awake eyes.
Joylani’s personal tip:  try blowdrying your eye lash curler for a couple of seconds before curling and becareful ..it can get H-O-T

2) Anyone who knows me knows that I never leave the house with out BLUSH. Make sure to add some blush on the apples of your cheeks. Adding some color to your skin will help with any post-drinking paleness.

And 3) Highlighters are a Must!!! Try dabbing a milk shake pearly colored  highlighter on your browbone, down your nose and across your forehead. Not only will this help you look more energized, but  this will help put back any radiance you may have lost in the wake of the big countdown.

So there you have it…my three awesome quick fixes. Hope this helps! Let’s start this year off with a good fashion and makeup bang. WOOHOO!!!

I’ve gotten so many emails saying “Joy, can you please show us how to do celebrity hairstyles!!!!” and I was like “oh , what the hell. fine.” I have no problem doing it.

Here I have Jessica Simpson with a classic twist up do.

jessica-simpson.jpg

Classic Neat Twist
To create classic neat twists like Jessica Simpson’s use Redken fabricate 03 heat active texturizer from roots to end and brush hair through. Then use a large base curling iron making sure to apply hot sets 22 thermal setting mist to each three-inch section of hair and clip each section once done until cool. Brush hair out. Apply a small amount of glass 01 smoothing serum throughout, then backcomb and smooth over the sides and back. This gives the shape and height that is perfect for this look. Pin back into a French twist, smoothing the top and spray with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to keep shape.

Here, you have Emmy Rossum’s sexy romantic half up do

Use a medium base curling iron on three-inch sections and apply spray starch 15 heat memory styler to each section, roll and pin back to cool down. Run fingers through hair using vinyl glam 01 mega shine spray and pull a section of hair up front and secure tightly with pins.

Carmen Electra

To get Carmen’s sexy ’90’s supermodel-style hair, start by applying a quarter-size dollop of frank.studio Volumizing Cream. Apply from roots to ends on clean, towel-dried hair. With a large round brush, blow hair up and out starting at the nape. Take small sections and be sure each section is dry before moving onto the next. Once hair is completely dry, set on large velcro rollers.

Eva Mendez

The soft, sexy Brigette Bardot-esque look seen here on Eva Mendes is great for long, layered hair. Feminine and easy to achieve, this look is great for anyone. Start by applying a few pumps of L’Oreal Bliss Extreme Volumizer to clean, towel-dried hair. Using a large round brush, dry hair up and out, away from the scalp. Work in two sections, starting at the nape. Use this method on the sides and top as well. For the front, blow hair forward and sweep to the side. Once hair is dry, toss upside down and tousle with your fingers. Finish off with a mist of flexible hold hairspray.

I drink aloe vera juice to help me with constipation, diarrhea, and it’s also good for any type of gastrointestinal disorder. But another great benefit of the aloe vera juice is that it helped me to lose weight. I drink aloe vera juice EVERY DAY…and some of you may think it’s nasty, horrid, tastes like crap, or makes you go poo, but the Aloe vera juice that I take has Studies which have suggested that aloe, when consumed orally, imparts a wealth of health benefits, including aiding digestion and supporting the immune system. Ultimate Aloe® Juice is a rejuvenating tonic made from 100 percent aloe vera, 50 percent aloe concentrated powder, more than 200 nutrients, enzymes, vitamins and minerals, including 13 of the 17 essential minerals needed for good nutrition. Supports a healthy digestive tract and promotes regularity within the bowel. Comes in natural aloe flavor, cranberry-apple, strawberry-kiwi, and pomegranate.*

I drink the pomegranate, and again, this helped me to also lose the 40-45 pounds.

I went from a size 14 to a size 5-6…and I LOVE IT!!!

Not only is my digestive system feeling better, but i lost weight, and I feel sexy as a mofo..hehe

You can only buy this kind of aloe vera juice through market america, so

Tips on Looking Slimmer

bargain, beauty, clothes, fashion, makeup, slim, spring fashion, tips, trends, Uncategorized, weightloss

Let’s be serious: if you’ve got more junk in the trunk than you want, chances are, you’ve probley tried to lose the weight. It’s been my issue forever.

From reading beauty magazines, to talking to women at work, friends, people, no matter what their size is, every one wants to look slimmer. By wearing the right type of clothes for your body shape you can look as much as 10 to 15 pounds slimmer. For those who are tired of dieting or just can’t seem to lose those last few pounds at the last minute, choosing clothes that are right for you and suit your body type will make you look slimmer – in an instant.

What you want to do is create a look that makes us appear larger or out-of–proportion; however, that’s what we do when we are not aware of the impact of line, design, proportion and color. Line and design is much more that wearing horizontal stripes, it is how the lines in the garment are formed, the shape and proportion of garments and how they are used to create the best look and how the lines of the body interact with the lines in clothes.

  1. Pulling your hair up and away from your shoulders will peel away pounds. Try sweeping your hair into a high ponytail and you’ll be surprised at how much slimmer your face looks.
  2. Not only are vertical- and pin-stripes slimming, but asymmetrical stripes such as miter stripe blouses and tunics also work. They have a lengthening effect on your upper body.
  3. Wear a shear loose blouse
  4. If you worry about your waistline, try some jeans or pants that sit low on your hips, as they will slenderize your trouble spot. Slacks that have a waist that hit just below your navel will make your midriff seem longer and slimmer.
  5. If you’re burdened with a belly bulge, choose relaxed fit jeans. The elasticized waist may help tame that bothersome tummy. Pleat-fronted pants will balloon your middle, so they’re a definite don’t. Flat front and side-zip styles are a do.
  6. Always remember that oversized clothes don’t help camouflage problem areas. Excess fabric only makes you look bulkier. Don’t try to hide under your clothes!
  7. Wispy bangs make a round face seem less so. Loose curls and waves can also have a slimming effect, so consider a body wave. Chunky highlights on the sides of your face will elongate it.
  8. Last, but not least, everyone has a feature they know works for them. Instead of always focusing on covering up what you don’t like, learn to flaunt what you do.

Beauty Tips and Tricks, Weightloss, Fashion, Love, Health,

My name is Joy and I will be talking about beauty, fashion, weightloss, love, whatever comes to mind. But more specifically, makeup. I love makeup and Fashion.

I used to work for Boots and for Prescriptives. I sorta wished I had worked at MAC, but its the same thing, really. Makeup is makeup and it’s really all about how you apply it and if you can “work it.”

This blog is made for the average girls who are “average;” meaning, girls who are bigger than a size 8, dont shop at Neiman Marcus, have average jobs- you get the picture.

Every time we look at the cover of a fashion magazine, we see beautiful people. We see skinny celebrities with flawless skin, hot bods, the best clothes, and are perfect. Of course, if we did have money, we would be able to hire our own certified experienced personal trainer instead of going to the gym at 24 hour fitness and having some one who just graduated from high school tell us how to keep in shape.

Anyway, I will be posting videos and giving advice on makeup.

Stay tuned!
